How to use this website

From the home page, there are six links to six activities: Court of Henry VIII; Fun; Religion; Tudor Life; Trade; Joust. Each activity challenges you with a question about the Tudors and helps you to work out the answers.

Choose any activity to start. Work your way through to the end, solving the problems and using the ‘Next’ button to move forward. Use the documents and objects in the activities to help you answer the questions.

At the end of the activity, there is another page with more choices for things to see and do. You can have another go at the same question, choose another activity or watch a video.

Finding your way around

  • Site Map: At the foot of the home page, there is a link to a site map that will show you links to the main sections of this website.
  • Getting back to where you started: At any time, clicking on the ‘Back to home’ button will take you back to the home page. From there you can move on to any of the main pages. If you click on ‘Back to home’ while you are in the middle of an activity, you will have to start the activity again (losing any work you’ve already done.)
  • Contact us: If you have questions for us or comments about the website, choose the link to ‘Contact us’ from the foot of the home page.
  • Teacher’s notes: From the home page, you can go to the Teacher’s notes. You will find general information about the website, notes about each of the six main activities, and links to further classroom activities.
  • Resources: Also available from the home page are Resources pages. These allow you to view the documents and objects used in the website and print these images.

3D objects

You can turn some of the Tudor objects around and look at them from different sides. Hover over the arrow buttons to the left and right and the object will spin round.

For some objects, you can open and close drawers and lids. These work using the buttons underneath the object.

You cannot turn the objects around while you have drawers or lids open. Close these first and then use the arrow buttons to turn the object.

Printing and PDF pages (Resources)

You will sometimes see a “Print” button at the top right of a web page. Clicking this button will print the web page.

Some pages, like the resources, are designed to print pictures at a better quality. These pages are in PDF format. Some PDFs are quite large and so may be slow to open on your screen. You will need Adobe Reader to open and print them. If you don't have it, get Adobe Reader 5.0 or higher free from Adobe.

Adobe Reader has some useful help features including a ‘read out loud’ option, which reads the text through the computer speakers. For more information, visit accessibility in Adobe Reader.

At the end of the Tudor Life activity you will be able to print out a coloured carpet. To print the carpet as large as possible, click on the 'Print carpet' button. When the print dialog box comes up, look for the 'Layout' tab or the ‘Basics’ tab (it has a different name on different computers). Select the option called 'Landscape' and click on the 'Print' button. This will print the carpet sideways down the page.
